The messages God sent to Jeremiah and recorded in these chapters are not in chronological order. Historically they would have taken place after Jeremiah 25. These chapters clearly show that God is in control. His will—WILL be done. All the "self" effort in the world cannot thwart or prevent God from accomplishing what He has promised to do: both the good (blessings and protection); and the bad (curses and destruction). Victory only comes from God.
Jeremiah writes about God's messages to the different nations. Two things are clear: 1) God has a plan; and 2) HE controls the what, when, where and how. Jeremiah 46:10a - "But that day belongs to the LORD God All-Powerful. At that time he will give those people the punishment they deserve."
God lists their actions, attitudes, and choices.
A time is coming when God's will—WILL be done. His plan WILL be fulfilled. The future tense found in Jeremiah 48:1 - "How terrible it will be" becomes the present tense in Jeremiah 48:46 - "How terrible it is."
Jeremiah 48:36 - The riches they trusted in were taken away.
Jeremiah 48:38–39 - They are broken, shattered, and shamed.
Jeremiah 48:42–44 - When the year of punishment comes there will be fear, deep pits, and traps they can't escape.
Jeremiah 49:10 - They will not be able to hide.
Jeremiah 49:12 - Punishment will not be escaped.
Jeremiah 49:12 - "You must certainly drink from the cup of suffering." (See Cross Reference found in Psalm 75:8.)
Jeremiah 49:16 - The protection and control they felt because of where they lived, failed them.
Jeremiah 49:16 - "Even if you build your home as high as an eagle's nest, I will bring you down from there," says the LORD.
Then God makes a statement that he repeats about Babylon in Chapter 50. He says:
Even after the severe judgment there was still hope. Jeremiah 49:39 - "I will make good things happen to Elam again in the future." There is still hope. There is still time to change the promised punishment to promised blessings. Turn. Change your hearts and minds. Get a new way of thinking. Receive blessings.

Then God makes a statement that he repeats about Babylon in Chapter 50. He says:
"Like a lion coming up from the thick bushes near the Jordan River to attack a strong pen for sheep, I will suddenly chase Edom from its land. Who is the one I have chosen to do this? There is no one like me, no one can take me to court. None of their leaders can stand up against me." Jeremiah 49:19No one has power over God. NO ONE! What HE decides is what WILL happen. Everything He told Jeremiah to say—happened. Everything happens according to HIS plan. Our choices determine our consequences.
