Acts 14:1–28

December 05, 2012

Keep going!  Keep going!  KEEP GOING! Faith comes first then the victory. Don't give up! Don't ever give up. Our problems and successes are not about us if we are being obedient to God. When others see our problems—we should point them to God. When others see our successes—we should point them to God.

Paul is stoned and both he and Barnabas are forced to leave. But they were still full of joy. They healed people and the people wanted to worship them (the messenger) instead of God the creator. Acts 14:15 - "Friends, why are you doing these things? We are only human beings like you. We are bringing you the Good News and telling you to turn away from these worthless things and turn to the living God. He is the one who made the sky, the earth, the sea, and everything in them." (Those verses remind me of Psalm 8.) He is the one! Problems or successes—He is the One! We should always be pointing others to Him.

When Paul and Barnabas were forced to leave they "put them (the new followers) in the Lord's care." (Acts 15:26) Everything had come full circle. When the believers in Antioch sent Paul and Barnabas out to the surrounding areas to spread the Good News of Christ, "They put them into God's care." Paul and Barnabas went out, spread the news, and many people believed. Before Paul and Barnabas left them they did the exact same thing as the people of Antioch. They put them in God's care. It was God's mission—not their own. It was God's provisions—not their own. It was God's victory—not their own. Psalm 140:14 - "Surely the righteous will praise His name and the upright will live before him."

He is the One!

What a Friend We Have in Jesus

What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear. What a privilege to carry, everything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit; O what needless pain we bear; all because we do not carry; everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations! Is there trouble any where? We should never be discouraged, take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer. Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer! In his arms he'll take and shield thee; thou wilt find a solace there.

Listen to it here.  Such simple words and melody, but what profound truth.
