"This is what the LORD says: For the many crimes of __________, I will punish them." He says this eight different times in the first two chapters of Amos, and each time the LORD goes on to say why He is going to punish the different groups.
Amos was just a shepherd, but God spoke to him about what was going to happen. He was an improbable man, and his message was improbable. Yet, within 50 years, the improbable happened and God's words came true. It is heartening to KNOW that God keeps His word. It is also comforting to know that God will try to draw His people back to Him before He judges them. Accountability will happen. The wrath of God is real. Not an outburst that is uncontrolled but instead "holiness reacting to evil in a way that is morally right and glorious." ~ From Alone in Majesty by William McDonald.
Max Lucado in his book The Great House of God says this, "As drastic as it may appear, God will actually allow a person to experience hell on earth, in hopes of awakening his faith. A holy love makes the tough choice to release the child to the consequences of his rebellion."
God laid out the problems:
Addendum: 9/22/15 ~ God's word is so encouraging. Over and over it seems that God has used the words I wrote years ago as an encouragement to me today. NOTHING will be able to thwart what God has promised to do. NOTHING! No matter how long or difficult this path is, we will walk it with joy and praise on our lips for the surpassing greatness of our Father.
