The crucifixion and death of Christ. It's amazing how the different groups (Sadducees, Pharisees, and Elders) were divided in their beliefs but were united in one thing and that was their envy and jealousy of Christ. They were willing to do anything it required to get what they wanted—His destruction.
It wasn't enough to just get rid of Him by killing Him. No, they went even further. They mocked Him. They spit on Him. They insulted Him. They make fun of Him being "king" by making Him a crown out of twigs and thorns. They put a robe on Him in the color of royalty. They bowed down on their knees "as if" to worship Him. After they have their "fun" degrading Him (typical behavior of someone who is envious and jealous) they strip Him of the robe and crucify Him. They are proud of themselves for what they have done.
What arrogance. They don't "get it". In their pompous, self-righteous, and stubborn refusal to surrender their wills to Christ, they destroyed the physical body of THE Christ. But, man cannot thwart God's plan.
As religious unbelievers they thought they were protecting and preserving God. They were doing neither. Instead they were condemning themselves. The curtain that used to separate the Holy of the Holies (God) from the people was torn in half from the top (God) to the bottom (man). No longer would there be anything to separate us from God. Jesus paid the price. Jesus died so that you and I could have salvation. He made it available for ALL, but we must ask to receive it. Thank you, Jesus for your sacrifice. Thank you, for paying the price for our salvation.
