August already! How can that be? Wednesday we went with a select group of leaders from our church to downtown Chicago for a mini mission trip. We teamed with Our Savior to put on a festival for the community children. The neighborhood is just north of the downtown hub of Chicago in an area that is largely Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist. There are over 50 nations represented in the school district. Our Savior's focus is reaching the next generation with the Gospel of Christ.
It was very hot and exhausting, but we had a great time with both the people we traveled with and the young kids from the area we played games with. A couple of their little faces are forever stamped into my memory. LORD, may these children come to know you as their Savior. May they know and feel your love. I pray for the leaders of the Our Savior ministry as they work to bring your light to this community. Encourage them and strengthen them I pray. Thank you, for the opportunity to go and to be your hands and feet. Thank you for the leadership positions you have given us. May we always discern YOUR will and follow YOUR ways. Amen.

Nanna Camp (#2) concluded yesterday. What fun!. This was Miss "A's" first year. She was so proud to be part of the fun. She was the last one to go to sleep and the first one to wake up. This years theme was all about pirates. They made pirate hats, parrots, and an ocean in a bottle. They had treasure digs, a scavenger hunt, obstacle course, etc. They even got to "belch" at the table. 🙂 We are exhausted but the time spent with the "grands" was well worth it. High on the list for next year: sleeping bags and air mattresses or pads for my husband and me.
My brother-in-law (husband's brother) got three units of blood on Monday. His leukemia has not responded to the treatments and it is only a matter of time. He just does not comprehend what all is happening. It is so much harder and takes so much more time to go through this process with someone that doesn't have the mental capabilities of understanding. We really need to be thinking about arranging Hospice services sometime soon. It's not time yet, only because my brother-in-law isn't ready yet because he thinks the new medicine is "kicking in." When it becomes clear the new medicine is not the answer we will find a way to talk with him.
