The Psalmist wonders, "Why"? Why do the wicked seem to prosper? Why do they seem to not have any troubles? Why have I kept my heart pure? Why? I've (the Psalmist) tried to understand all of this, but it was too hard for me to see. UNTIL—until I went to the Temple of God, then I understood.
They are in danger. When the LORD rises up they will disappear.
I have written in the margins of my Bible: Psalm 73 - What a chapter! Psalm 73:17 - ...then I understood... the appearance of wealth and happiness are deceiving. Take this whole world, just give me Jesus. Psalm 73:25–26 - "I want nothing on earth beside you." That is my desire.
There is accountability. Psalm 73:26–28 - "My body and my mind may become weak, but God is my strength. He is mine forever. Those who are far from God will die; you destroy those who are unfaithful. But I am close to God and that is good. The LORD God is my protection. I will tell all that you have done."
Addendum: 2/2/15 ~ I have noticed a theme while recording these last several Psalms. I will tell! I will tell all you have done. Telling HIS Story is the purpose we have been given. I am thinking the time to get Walking By Faith: A True Story of God's Faithfulness started is getting closer. Father, show me the when. I will obey.
I have Psalm 1 written in the margins of by Bible next to this chapter. "They wear pride like a necklace and put on violence as their clothing. They are looking for profits and do not control their selfish desires." What a description of how easily it is for the wicked to proceed ahead in their evil actions. BUT, it could not have started that easily. There had to have been a path of disobedience they choose to walk down. The farther you go down the path of disobedience the easier it becomes, until eventually it was like putting on a necklace and getting dressed in the morning. That thought ought to make all of us want to fall to our knees right now. I NEVER want to put myself in a position of compromising the TRUTH and putting myself on a dangerous path of destruction. And destruction will happen. "You have put them in danger; you cause them to be destroyed. They are destroyed in a moment; they are swept away by terrors. It will be like waking from a dream. Lord, when you rise up, they will disappear."
