Psalm 94—God Will Pay Back His Enemies

Psalm 94 starts out acknowledging that God is in control and that it is God who avenges and punishes the proud. "Rise up, Judge of the earth, and give the proud what they deserve."

The proud think they can do whatever they want and get by with it. They get lulled into believing that God doesn't see/hear/care/or know what they are doing. The irony is they think they are wise. They think they are in control. Because God has not yet stopped them, they think they are "permitted." They don't realize they are "stupid" and "fools." Verse 8 - "You stupid ones... pay attention. You fools, when will you understand? Can't the creator of ears hear? Can't the maker of eyes see? 10 Won't the one who corrects... punish you? Doesn't the teacher of people know everything? The LORD knows what people think..."

12 "LORD, those you correct and steer in the right direction are happy because they learn from you. 13 You give them rest until a pit is dug for the wicked. 14 You won't leave your people. 15 Judgment will be fair and the honest will follow it."

"Who will help me? Who will stand with me? Who is going to help me fight against the wicked? Who will stand strong against those who do evil?" The Lord sometimes chooses to use people to stand up against what He calls wicked.

It's a hard thing to do and you can't do it on your own. It is only with God's help that it can be done. When we refused to compromise our moral beliefs and confronted the falsehoods, "the storm" began to rage. It took every ounce of courage we had to stand strong. We often wondered why God chose us to be the ones to stand up against their actions? I don't know, other than we were willing to totally surrender all, to let go, and let God. This battle is not ours—it is God's and God's alone. Without His help we would have failed. He has given us peace, contentment, and HOPE, even in the midst of "the storm." We understand it is not by a faith in our power, strength, or might. It is only by God's power, God's strength, and God's might. Our faith is in who God is and His power, His strength, and His might.

Psalm 94:20–21 - "Crooked leaders cannot be your friends. They use the law to cause suffering. They join forces against people who do right and sentence to death the innocent." BUT! 22 "But the LORD is my defender; my God is the rock of my protection. 23 God will pay them back for their sins and will destroy them for their evil. The LORD our God will destroy them."

Let Go. Let God. He IS in control.
