Psalm 95:1 – 96:13

April 28, 2011

First God's promises, and now the next two Psalms are entirely about Praise.

Come! Let us sing for joy to the LORD.  Let's come to Him with thanksgiving.  Let's sing songs to Him because God is the God of all gods. Everything on earth is His. He has created all things.

Come! Let's worship Him and bow done. Let's kneel before the LORD who made us, because HE is our God and we are His people.

TodayToday! Listen to what He says: Do not be stubborn. Today! (See Hebrews 3 and 4)

Psalm 96 - "Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Sing to the LORD and praise his name; every day tell how he saves us. Tell the nations of his glory; tell all people the miracle he does, because the LORD is great; he should be praised at all times. He should be honored more than all the gods, because all the gods of the nations are only idols, but the LORD made the heavens. The LORD has glory and majesty; he has power and beauty in his Temple."

7 "Praise the LORD, all nations on earth: praise the LORD's glory and power. Praise the glory of the LORD's name. Bring an offering and come into his Temple courtyards. Worship the LORD because he is holy. Tremble before him, everyone on earth. Tell, the nations, "The LORD is King." The earth is set, and it cannot be moved."

"He will judge the people fairly. Let the skies rejoice and the earth be glad; let the sea and everything in it shout. Let the fields and everything in them rejoice. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the LORD, because he is coming. He is coming to judge the world; he will judge the world with fairness and the peoples with truth."

The most important thing we've learned—Praise!

Psalm 150 - Praise

Psalm 8 - Praise and Purpose. It's ALL about Him.

I Peter 5:6 - "Be humble under God's powerful hand so he will lift you up when the right time comes.

Praise the LORD!

Psalm 94

Psalm 94—God Will Pay Back His Enemies

Psalm 94 starts out acknowledging that God is in control and that it is God who avenges and punishes the proud. "Rise up, Judge of the earth, and give the proud what they deserve."

The proud think they can do whatever they want and get by with it. They get lulled into believing that God doesn't see/hear/care/or know what they are doing. The irony is they think they are wise. They think they are in control. Because God has not yet stopped them, they think they are "permitted." They don't realize they are "stupid" and "fools." Verse 8 - "You stupid ones... pay attention. You fools, when will you understand? Can't the creator of ears hear? Can't the maker of eyes see? 10 Won't the one who corrects... punish you? Doesn't the teacher of people know everything? The LORD knows what people think..."

12 "LORD, those you correct and steer in the right direction are happy because they learn from you. 13 You give them rest until a pit is dug for the wicked. 14 You won't leave your people. 15 Judgment will be fair and the honest will follow it."

"Who will help me? Who will stand with me? Who is going to help me fight against the wicked? Who will stand strong against those who do evil?" The Lord sometimes chooses to use people to stand up against what He calls wicked.

It's a hard thing to do and you can't do it on your own. It is only with God's help that it can be done. When we refused to compromise our moral beliefs and confronted the falsehoods, "the storm" began to rage. It took every ounce of courage we had to stand strong. We often wondered why God chose us to be the ones to stand up against their actions? I don't know, other than we were willing to totally surrender all, to let go, and let God. This battle is not ours—it is God's and God's alone. Without His help we would have failed. He has given us peace, contentment, and HOPE, even in the midst of "the storm." We understand it is not by a faith in our power, strength, or might. It is only by God's power, God's strength, and God's might. Our faith is in who God is and His power, His strength, and His might.

Psalm 94:20–21 - "Crooked leaders cannot be your friends. They use the law to cause suffering. They join forces against people who do right and sentence to death the innocent." BUT! 22 "But the LORD is my defender; my God is the rock of my protection. 23 God will pay them back for their sins and will destroy them for their evil. The LORD our God will destroy them."

Let Go. Let God. He IS in control.

Psalm 92:1 – 93:5

April 27, 2011

Psalm 92 is all about: Thanksgiving for God's Goodness

     - It is good to praise you, LORD
     - It is good to tell of your love and your loyalty
     - It is good to praise you with song
     - LORD, you have made me happy by what you have done
     - I will sing for joy at the work of your hands
     - You have done great things

Your thoughts are beyond man's thoughts. Many will not understand. You are Sovereign (Psalm 1), Truth and Justice will prevail. Accountability does happen.

Psalm 92:14–15 - "When they are old, they will still produce fruit; they will be healthy and fresh. They will say that the LORD is good. He is my Rock, and there is no wrong in him."

Psalm 93:4 - "The sound of the water is loud; the ocean waves are powerful, but the LORD above is much greater."

In my mind I'm picturing the different water falls on the Appalachian Trail and Niagara Falls. If you've ever stood at the ocean's edge and marveled at the power of the waves, all of that is nothing—nothing but a slow drip compared to God's power. God, who created the heavens and earth IS in control.

Psalm 8 - "What is man...."

Addendum: 7/25/20 ~ Psalm 92:14–15 is my prayer. I don't want to be "done." I want to make the last years of my life (no matter how many) matter. "When they are old, they will still produce fruit; they will be healthy and fresh. They will say that the LORD is good. He is my rock, and there is no wrong in him."

Psalm 90:1 – 91:16

April 26, 2011

Psalm 90:2 - "You are God. You have always been, and you will always be." That sums everything up doesn't it? He is God—we aren't. Psalm 90:12 - "Teach us how short our lives really are so that we may be wise."

Psalm 91 - I have the entire Psalm highlighted and many lines underlined. The key is found in the verse from yesterday (Proverbs 30:15 - "Every word of God is true. He guards those who come to him for safety.), and in Psalm 91:1–2 - "Those who go to God Most High for safety will be protected by the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, "You are my place of safety and protection. You are my God and I trust you." No matter what. Hands off in total surrender. No scheming. No strategies. No self serving demands. No win at all cost attitude. No. Total surrender. Surrendering all to the God who is, who has always been, and who will always be. When you do that then you reap His promises.
  • He will save you from hidden traps
  • He will save you from deadly diseases
  • He will cover you with His feathers
  • He will hide you under His wing
  • His truth will be your shield and protection
  • You will not fear danger by day or night
  • You will not be afraid of diseases
  • You will be protected from dangers around you
  • You will watch and see the wicked punished
Psalm 91:9 - "The LORD is your protection; you have made God Most High your place of safety."

Therefore:
  • Nothing bad will happen to you
  • Disaster will not come to your home
  • God has put His angels in charge of you
  • His angels will watch over you wherever you go
  • They will catch you in their hands
  • You will not hit your foot on a rock
  • You will be able to walk over danger.
The LORD says,

"Whoever loves me, I will save. I will protect those who know me. They will call to me, and I will answer them. (Jeremiah 29:12-14) I will be with them in trouble; I will rescue them and honor them.  I will give them a long, full life, and they will see how I can save." (Jeremiah 33:3)

Can you shout Hallelujah!?! Jane (Her Name Was Jane) has so much marked in her Bible. She has PRECIOUS written by the above verses. She has the cross reference of Isaiah 43:2 circled, verses Mom told me to read on 3/31/08 as a promise God encouraged her with on our behalf. Jane also has an asterisk next to Psalm 91:4 - His truth *promises will be your shield and protection. *God delights when we recite His promises back to Him.

I believe His promises. We choose to believe. We choose to go to God Most High for safety and protection from "the storm." You are our God, and we trust you.

Psalm 144:2  - He protects me like a strong, walled city, and he loves me. He is my defender and my Savior, my shield and my protection.
Proverbs 30:5 - Every word of God is true. He guards those who come to him for safety.

Amen and Amen.

We combined a 90th birthday party for my Dad with our Easter celebration on Sunday. What a great time the four generations had together. There were plenty of tears around the table as Dad prayed. One of the things I will miss most is hearing my Dad pray. Knowing this may be one of the last times, we recorded him praying without him knowing it.

It was our joy to honor him in his last days. I don't think we will have him much longer. He has dramatically declined over these last few months. His coloring doesn't seem quite right. Oh, how he loves Dozer (our Chocolate Lab) and the feeling is quite mutual. Who would have ever guessed that a puppy could have brought my Dad such joy in his last days. I'm thankful. So very thankful to have had Dad for 90 years.

Psalm 87:1 – 88:18 (Continued)

April 22, 2011

Romans 8:18–39 - Continued

"We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him. They are the people he called, because that was his plan. God knew them before he made the world, and he decided that they would be like his son so that Jesus would be the firstborn of many brothers. God planned for them to be like his Son, and those he planned to be like his Son he also called; and those he called, he also made right with him, and those he made right, he also glorified."

"So what should we say about this? If God is with us, no one can defeat us. He did not spare his own Son but gave him for us all. So with Jesus, God will surely give us all things. Who can accuse the people God has chosen? No one because God is the One who makes them right. Who can say God's people are guilty? No one, because Christ Jesus died, but he was also raised from the dead and is on God's right side, begging God for us. Can anything separate us from the love Christ has for us? Can troubles or problems or sufferings or hunger or nakedness or danger or violent death? As it is written in scripture: "For you we are in danger of death all the time. People think we are worth no more than sheep to be killed." (Psalm 44:22) "But in all these things we have full victory through God who showed his love for us. Yes, I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor ruling spirits, nothing now, nothing in the future, no powers, nothing above us, nothing below us, nor anything else in the whole world will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our LORD."

I Corinthians 15:12–19 - " Now since we preached that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead, why do some of you say that people will not be raised from the dead? If no one is ever raised from the dead then Christ has not been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is worth nothing, and your faith is worth nothing. And also, we are guilty of lying about God, because we testified of him that he raised Christ from the dead. But if people are not raised from the dead, then God never raised Christ. If the dead are not raised, Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith has nothing to it; you are still guilty of your sins. And those who have already died are lost. If our hope in Christ is for this life only, we should be pitied more than anyone else in the world."

II Corinthians 1:3–11 - "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is the Father who is full of mercy and all comfort. He comforts us every time we have trouble, so when others have trouble, we can comfort them with the same comfort God gives us. We share in the many sufferings of Christ. In the same way, much comfort comes to us through Christ. If we have troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation, and if we have comfort, you also have comfort. This helps you to accept patiently the same sufferings we have. Our hope for you is strong, knowing that you share in our sufferings and also in the comfort we receive."

"Brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the trouble we suffered in Asia. We had great burdens there that were beyond our own strength. We even gave up hope of living. Truly, in our own hearts we believed we would die. But this happened so we would not trust in ourselves but in God, who raises people from the dead. God saved us from these great dangers of death, and he will continue to save us. We have put our hope in him, and he will save us again. And you can help us with your prayers. Then many people will give thanks for us—that God blessed us because of their many prayers." (Tell the story!!)

I Peter 1 - "From Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ. To God's chosen people who are away from their homes and are scattered all around the countries of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. God planned long ago to choose you my making you his holy people, which is the Spirit's work. God wanted you to obey him and to be made clean by the blood of the death of Jesus Christ. Grace and peace be yours more and more."

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In God's great mercy he has caused us to be born again into a living hope, because Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Now we have hope for the blessings God has for his children. These blessings, which cannot be destroyed or be spoiled; or lose their beauty, are kept in heaven for you. God's power protects you through your faith until salvation is shown to you are the end of time. This makes you very happy, even though now for a short time different kinds of trouble may make you sad. These troubles come to prove that your faith is pure. This purity of faith is worth more than gold, which can be proved to be pure by fire but will ruin. But the purity of your faith will bring you praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is shown to you. You have not seen Christ, but you still love him. You cannot see him now, but you believe in him. So you are filled with a joy that cannot be explained, a joy full of glory. And you are receiving the goal of your faith—the salvation of your souls."

"The prophets searched carefully and tried to learn about this salvation. They prophesied about the grace that was coming to you. The Spirit of Christ was in the prophets, telling in advance about the sufferings of Christ and about the glory that would follow those sufferings. The prophets tried to learn about what the Spirit was showing them, when those things would happen, and what the world would be like at that time. It was shown them that their service was not for themselves but for you, when they told about the truths you have now heard. Those who preached the Good News to you told you those things with the help of the Holy Spirit who was sent from heaven—things into which angels desire to look."

"So prepare your minds for service and have self-control. All your hope should be for the gift of grace that will be yours when Jesus Christ is shown to you. Now that you are obedient children of God do not live as you did in the past. You did not understand, so you did the evil things you wanted. But be holy in all you do, just as God, the One who called you, is holy. It is written in the Scriptures:  "You must be holy, because I am holy."

"You pray to God and call him Father, and he judges each person's work equally. So while you are here on earth, you should live with respect for God. You know that in the past you were living in a worthless way, a way passed down from the people who lived before you. But you were saved from that useless life. You were bought, not with something that ruins like gold or silver, but with the precious blood of Christ, who was like a pure and perfect lamb. Christ was chosen before the world was made, but he was shown to the world in these last times for your sake. Through Christ you believe in God, who raised Christ from the dead and gave him glory. So your faith and your hope are in God."

"Now that you have made your souls pure by obeying the truth, you can have true love for your Christian brothers and sisters. So love each other deeply with all your heart. You have been born again, and this new life did not come from something that dies, but from something that cannot die. You were born again through God's living message that continues forever. The scripture says, "All people are like the grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field. The grass dies and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord will live forever." (Isaiah 40:6-8) And this is the word that was preached to you."

Revelations 21:1–8 - "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth had disappeared, and there was no sea anymore. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. It was prepared like a bride dressed for her husband. And, I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Now God's presence is with people, and he will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them and will be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death, sadness, crying, or pain, because all the old ways are gone."

"The One who was sitting on the throne said, "Look!  I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this, because these word are true and can be trusted."

"The One on the throne said to me, "It is finished. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the End. I will give free water from the spring of water of life to anyone who is thirsty. Those who win the victory receive this, and I will be their God, and they will be my children. But cowards, those who refuse to believe, who do evil things, who kill, who sin sexually, who do evil magic, who worship idols, and who tell lies—all these will have a place in the lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

Psalm 87:1 – 88:18

Hallelujah to the Lamb!

But first...

Psalm 88 is about misery. I don't know where the context of this misery came from, whether it is misery as a result of the accountability for life style choices as referenced in Psalm 140 or if it came from a "poor me" attitude. Whether it originated from disobedience or from a self-centered view, both hopefully cause the person to seek God. Disobedience—confession, repentance and forgiveness. Self-centered—confession, repentance and forgiveness.

Now, back to the Hallelujah to the Lamb. The Life Lesson verses for this section is entitled "Overcoming Spiritual Depression" and while reading them you just can't help but say—Hallelujah to the Lamb. I am going to write them out in their entirety.  It will take pages, but this is Holy Week—Hallelujah to the Lamb.

Job 42:1–6 - "Then Job answered the LORD: 'I know that you can do all things and that no plan of yours can be ruined.' You asked, 'Who is this that made my purpose unclear by saying things that are not true?' Surely I spoke of things I did not understand; I talked of things too wonderful for me to know. You said, 'Listen now, and I will speak. I will ask you questions, and you must answer me." My ears had heard of you before, but now my eyes have seen you. (I have written beside this: Praise God! 4/14/08) So now I despise myself; I will change my heart and life. I will sit in the dust and ashes."

Psalm 42 – 43 -  "As a deer thirst for streams of water, so I thirst for you, God. I thirst for the living God. When can I go to meet with him? Day and night, my tears have been my food. People are always saying; "Where is your God?" When I remember these things, I speak with a broken heart. I used to walk with the crowd and lead them to God's Temple with songs of praise. Why am I so sad? Why am I so upset? I should put my hope in God and keep praising him, my Savior and my God. I am very sad. So I remember where the Jordan River begins, near the peaks of Hermon and Mount Mizar. Troubles have come again and again, sounding like waterfalls. Your waves are crashing around them. The LORD shows his true love every day. At night I have a song, and I pray to my living God. I say to God, my Rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why am I sad and troubled by my enemies?" My enemies insults make me feel as if my bones were broken. They are always saying, "Where is your God?" Why am I so sad? Why am I so upset? I should put my hope in God and keep praising him my Savior and my God."

"God, defend me. Argue my case against those who don't follow you. Save me from liars and those who do evil. God, you are my strength. Why have you rejected me? Why am I so sad and troubled by my enemies? Send me your light and truth to guide me. Let them lead me to your holy mountain, to where you live. Then I will go to the altar of God, to God who is my joy and happiness. I will praise you with a harp, God my God. Why am I so sad? Why am I so upset? I should put my hope in God and keep praising Him, my Savior and my God.

Romans 8:18–39 - "The sufferings we have now are nothing compared to the great glory that will be shown to us. Everything God made is waiting with excitement for God to show his children's glory completely. Everything God made was changed to become useless, not by its own wish but because God wanted it and because all along there was this hope: that everything God made would be set free from ruin to have the freedom and glory that belong to God's children."

"We know that everything God made has been waiting until now in pain, like a woman ready to give birth. Not only the world, but we also have been waiting with pain inside us. We have the Spirit as the first part of God's promise. So we are waiting for God to finish making us his own children, which means our bodies will be made free. We were saved, and we have this hope. If we see what we are waiting for, that is not really hope. People do not hope for something they already have. But we are hoping for something we do not have yet, and we are waiting for it patiently."

"Also, the Spirit helps us with our weakness. We do not know how to pray as we should. But the Spirit himself speaks to God for us, even begs God for us with deep feelings that words cannot explain. God can see what is in people's hearts. And he knows what is in the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit speaks to God for his people in the way God wants."

Hallelujah to the Lamb.

Psalm 85:1 – 86:17

April 20, 2011

My heart is overflowing today with gladness and thankfulness for ALL God has done. We know so little, but what we do know brings us to our knees. I am so thankful and grateful for the way He has guided and protected me throughout my life.

Psalm 85:10 - "Love and truth belong to God's people; goodness and peace will be theirs." The NIV and KJV says that "righteousness and peace (have) kissed each other." What a descriptive way of showing what God provides to those who serve Him.

Psalm 85:12 - "The LORD will indeed give what is good..."

Romans 8:28 - "We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him." There is a prerequisite there. An IF—Then. For all those who love Him. Those who understand that without God we are nothing and desire nothing but God. When the foundation is in place, THEN we can pray David's prayer found in Psalm 86:6–7 -"Lord, hear my prayer, and listen when I ask for mercy. I call to you in times of trouble, because you will answer me." Jeremiah 29:11–14 promises us that when we seek God and search for God with all our hearts we will find Him because He lets us find Him. BUT the opposite is true as well. Proverbs 1:24–32 talks about people who refuse to seek Him; people who would not follow His ways and refused to listen to Him. When disaster comes and they call out to him, he will not listen. He will not answer and you will not find him.

The choice is ours! What is it going to be?

LORD, there is no god like you. Only you are God. (You Are God Alone, from before time began, you were on the throne, you are God alone.) LORD, teach me what you want me to do and I will do it. LORD, teach me to respect you completely. LORD, my God, I will praise you with all my heart and I will honor your name forever. (NIV)  14 "The arrogant are attacking me..." Turn to me and have mercy. Give me, your servant, strength. Show me a sign of your goodness."

This is my prayer as well. First and foremost—YOU are God alone. Teach me your ways and I will do it. I will praise your name forever. Protect me from those who have falsely accused us. Turn to us. Give us strength. May we see your hand working in our lives.

God has shown us (and continues to show) many signs of His hand working in our lives. Many of them are included in this journal, but there were also many more. We are forever grateful to God and His mercies. No words of praise will ever be enough. Let my life be a testimony of HIS faithfulness. May all we do and say bring honor and glory to the one to whom it is due. ALL praise and ALL honor belong to the LORD God our father and to Jesus Christ His son. May your Holy Spirit continue to guide, direct and lead us for the rest of our lives. AMEN.

Psalm 83:1 – 84:12

April 19, 2011

In Psalm 83 the Psalmist is seeking judgment against his enemies. He asks God to rise up against those who "have taken crafty counsel" against God's people and "consulted against" God's "hidden ones." (They don't get it that God's people are "hidden" and protected by God himself.) The Psalmist is very specific and detailed in his request.

13 "My God, make them like tumbleweed, like chaff blown away by the wind. (Psalm 140) 14 Be like a fire that burns a forest or like flames that blaze through the hills. 15 Chase them with your storm, and frighten them with your wind. 16 Cover them with shame. Then people will look for you, LORD. 17 Make them afraid and ashamed forever. Disgrace them and destroy them."

Was the Psalmist out for personal vengeance? Did he want their accountability and punishment as a means for revenge. Absolutely not!! The next verse clearly state why he (and we) was (are) asking God to rise up.

18 "Then they will know that you are the LORD, that only you are GOD MOST HIGH over all the earth." An understanding that without God they are nothing and that they would desire nothing but God.

I Kings 18:37 - "LORD answer my prayer so these people will know that you, LORD, are God and that you will change their minds."

Revenge? No. Redemption? Yes. Repentance? Yes.

And... when they "get it"? Psalm 84

Happy (blessed) are those whose strength comes from God. (Verse 5) Even though they pass through valleys (Verse 6) they get stronger as they go. (Verse 7) And then they understand.

Psalm 84:9–10 - 10 One day in the courtyard of your Temple is better than a thousand days anywhere else. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the Temple of my God than live in the homes of the wicked. "The LORD God is like a sun and shield; the LORD gives us kindness and honor. He does not hold back anything good for those whose lives are innocent. 12 LORD, All-Powerful, happy are those who trust you!"

Psalm 89:21–22 - "I will steady him with my hand and strengthen him with my arm. No enemy will make him give forced payments, and wicked people will not defeat him."

The blessings of God comes to those who serve and trust Him. You really do get to see the hand of God working in your life, steadying and strengthening you. There is no better place to live. Just one day in His Temple is better than a thousand elsewhere.

Addendum: 2/27/15 ~ Today, as I was reading the first few verse of Psalm 83, the word "your" jumped off the page and resonated with me. Back in October of 2014, there was a shift in my/our thinking. See LORD, What Am I to Do? My focus changed from what was done to "us" and wanting our name cleared to realizing it is God's name that has been slandered. It is now ALL about clearing His name.

The Psalmist is saying the same thing in Psalm 83. "God, do not keep quiet; God, do not be silent or still. Your enemies are making noises; those who hate you are getting ready to attack. They are making plans against your people; they plot against those you love." The Psalmist goes on to say: hold them accountable. "My God, make them like tumbleweed, like chaff blown away by the wind. Be like a fire that burns a forest or like flames that blaze through the hills. Chase them with your storm, and frighten them with your wind. Cover them with shame. Then people will look for you, LORD. Make them afraid and ashamed forever. Disgrace them and destroy them. Then they will know that you are the LORD, that only you are God Most High over all the earth."

That is our prayer. LORD, rise up and clear YOUR name. It is all about YOU Lord, it is ALL about YOU.

Psalm 81:1 – 82:8

April 19, 2011

7 When you were in trouble you called, and I saved you. 10 Open your mouth and I will feed you.

This is what God wanted from the Israelites and us—total submission. When He has our submission THEN He takes care of us. Another example of an IF—THEN in the Bible. Chapter 80 speaks about Israel being planted like a vine in a land that was cleared for them. They multiplied and should have been productive.

Psalm 81:11 - "But my people would not listen to me; (they) would not submit to me. 12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own desires."

Hosea 9:7 – 10:4 - "God will reject them, because they have not obeyed him... Israel is like a large vine that produced plenty of fruit. As the people became richer, they built more altars for idols. As their land became better, they put up better stone pillars to honor gods. Their heart was false, and now they must pay for their guilt. The LORD will break down their altars; he will destroy their holy stone pillars... they make many false promises and agreements which they don't keep. So people sue each other in court; they are like poisonous weeds growing in a plowed field."

They go from being a vine, planted by God for the purpose of being productive, to becoming like a "poisonous weed in a plowed field." All because of their disobedience. "So I gave them over..."

Step aside. Accountability is going to happen.

Psalm 79:9 - "God our Savior, help us so people will praise you. Save us and forgive our sins so people will honor you."

Psalm 79:13 - "We are you people, the sheep of your flock. We will thank you always; forever and ever we will praise you."

For the glory of your name, for your name's sake. THAT is what life is all about. Praise, Honor, and Glory brought to your name.

That really says it all. Amazing love, how can it be that you my king would die for me. Amazing love, I know its true, it is my joy to honor you in all I do, I honor you. You are my king. Jesus, you are my king. Listen to it here.

As we enter this most holy of Holy weeks what can you say but, "Amazing Love" how can it be? Thank you Father for your saving Grace. Thank you for your love, forgiveness, compassion, protection, blessing, promises, and assurances. Thank you for being faithful and true and a God that never lets go.

Psalm 78:1–72

April 14, 2011

Aspah recounts the history of Israel from the time of slavery to King David. He was retelling the story so they would remember their past (the good and the bad) and would be reminded of why the things that had happened to them—happened. He stressed the importance of making sure that the glory of God was passed down to future generations.

Psalm 78: 4,6,7 - "We will not keep them from our children; we will tell those who come later about the praises of the LORD. We will tell about his power and the things he has done... Then their children would know them, even their children not yet born. And they would tell their children. So they would all trust God and not forget what he had done but would obey his commands."

Not only were they remembering all the good God had done, they were also remembering the consequences the Israelites suffered because of their disobedience and refusal to totally surrender their faith and trust to God.

Verse 10 - They didn't keep their agreement with God and refused to live by His teachings.
Verse 22 - They had not believed God and had not trusted Him to save them. (The source of all their problems.)
Verse 29 - God gave them what they wanted. (Sometimes God answers our stubbornness and gives us what we "want" even though it will be the very thing that brings us harm.)
Verse 32 - They kept on sinning, they did not believe even with the miracles.

When they had problems they would look to God for help, temporarily.

Verse 35 - they would remember that God was their rock
Verse 36 - but their words were false
Verse 36 - their tongues lied to Him. (Their prayers were not in total surrender to God. It was please save us from this problem.)
Verse 40 - they turned against God (Hebrews 6:4–8)
Verse 42 - they did not remember
Verse 43 - they forgot

Even though God led His people and guided them through the desert and led them safely so they had nothing to fear:

Verse 57 - they turned away and were disloyal
Verse 57 - they were like a crooked bow
Verse 58 - they made God angry
Verse 58 - they made him jealous

And God rejected them.

Verse 60 - He left them
Verse 61 - He let them be captured and taken by the enemy
Verse 62 - He let His people be killed
Verse 66 - He struck down His enemies and disgraced them forever (KJV - perpetual reproach)

May this never be said of me/us. We will remember. We will pass on to the generations that follow the majesty of His Name.

In Jane's (Her Name Was Jane) KJV Bible she had a slip of paper with the following:

Psalm 78:42 - REMEMBER!
Remember His Power!
1) Don't forget what He has done
2) Don't forsake what He has begun. Don't retreat in battle. Psalm 78:9
3) They were afraid - Don't fear! The victory/battle has been won! Psalm 78:52
4) Don't follow after false gods/idols

Psalm 77

April 14, 2011

In Jane's (Her Name Was Jane) Bible she has written:

I will remember—God

The Psalmist is discouraged. He asks, "Hath God forgotten?" But then he answers:

Verse 10 - I will remember the years of his right hand
Verse 11 - I will remember the works of the LORD
Verse 11 - I will remember thy wonders of old
Verse 12 - I will meditate on thy works
Verse 12 - I will talk of thy doings

Verse 13–15, "God, your ways are holy. NO god is as great as our God. You are the God who does miracles; you have shown your people power. By your power you have saved your people."

  The LORD—He is God.  I will remember—God!

Psalm 75:1 – 76:12 (Continued)

April 12, 2011

God is the Judge—AND—God always wins.

   - God is the one who sets the time for trial
   - God judges fairly
   - God says to the proud—don't brag
   - God says to the wicked—don't try to use your power against heaven. Don't be stubborn.
   - God says no one else can judge you
   - God is the judge
   - God will decide who drinks His cup of anger
   - God stands up to judge and save the needy
   - People praise you for your anger against evil
   - Those who live through your anger are stopped from doing more evil

Psalm 75:1 - "God we thank you; we thank you because you are near. We tell about the miracles you do. 9 I will tell about this forever; I will sing praise to the God of Jacob. 10 He will take all power away from the wicked, but the power of good people will grow."

Today is my Dad's 90th birthday. We took my Mom and Dad to breakfast this morning at a local restaurant. Dad prayed... and I lost it, the tears began to flow. Oh, how I love to hear him pray. That is what I will miss most when his days on this earth are ended. I am so grateful, so grateful for the godly heritage Dad has passed down to the future generations.

Addendum:  7/1/16 ~ Less than a month later Dad went to his eternal home. How grateful I am that we got to spend so much time with him during the end of his days on this earth.

The Cup. The "Inconvenient Truth" as our Pastor calls it. The cup of God's wrath. Several years ago when I was reading this passage, Verse 8 just really jumped out at me. Then I started to pay attention to all the other verses in the Bible that refers to "the cup" as well.

Psalm 75:8 - "The LORD holds a cup of anger in his hand; it is full of wine mixed with spices. He pours it out even to the last drop, and the wicked drink it all."

Jeremiah 25:15 - "My anger is like the wine in a cup... drink all of my anger from this cup."

Revelation 14:9,10 - "..that one also will drink the wine of God's anger which is prepared with all its strength in the cup of his anger."

Revelation 16:19 - "...so he gave... the cup filled with the wine of his terrible anger."

I guess one of the things that struck me the most was that the cup of God's anger was wine mixed with spices. Wine—not something unpleasant, but something pleasing. I believe that while the wicked are drinking the cup of God's anger they may not initially even realize that it is in fact the cup of God's anger that they are drinking, and that they will be forced to drink the entire cup."

Psalm 74

April 8, 2011

"Jesus, you're my firm foundation; I know I can stand secure... I put my hope in your Holy Word." (Listen here) That song has been running through my mind this morning. How very true. God's Word is true. Matthew 11:28-30 - "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." So true.

Come - The first step. Realizing you need a Savior and surrendering everything to Him.
Give - God is the one who gives forgiveness, rest, peace, comfort, freedom. We have to let go.
Take - You have to believe God for what He says, totally trusting Him. God's agenda. Not ours.
Learn - What and who God is; His ways; His words; reading the Bible; learning from the Holy Spirit.
Rest - Totally God-given. There is nothing you can do to achieve it.
Easy and Light - If we do all the other steps, what He gives us to carry is easy and light.

Only God can bring about justice. It is so freeing to understand we have no responsibility in bringing about justice. It is God's and God's alone. Our responsibility is to come → give → take → learn → and then to rest.

Psalm 73:1–28

April 7, 2011

The Psalmist wonders, "Why"? Why do the wicked seem to prosper? Why do they seem to not have any troubles? Why have I kept my heart pure? Why? I've (the Psalmist) tried to understand all of this, but it was too hard for me to see.  UNTIL—until I went to the Temple of God, then I understood.

They are in danger. When the LORD rises up they will disappear.

I have written in the margins of my Bible: Psalm 73 - What a chapter! Psalm 73:17 - ...then I understood... the appearance of wealth and happiness are deceiving. Take this whole world, just give me Jesus. Psalm 73:25–26 - "I want nothing on earth beside you." That is my desire.

There is accountability. Psalm 73:26–28 - "My body and my mind may become weak, but God is my strength. He is mine forever. Those who are far from God will die; you destroy those who are unfaithful. But I am close to God and that is good. The LORD God is my protection. I will tell all that you have done."

Addendum:  2/2/15 ~ I have noticed a theme while recording these last several Psalms. I will tell! I will tell all you have done. Telling HIS Story is the purpose we have been given. I am thinking the time to get Walking By Faith: A True Story of God's Faithfulness started is getting closer. Father, show me the when. I will obey.

I have Psalm 1 written in the margins of by Bible next to this chapter. "They wear pride like a necklace and put on violence as their clothing. They are looking for profits and do not control their selfish desires." What a description of how easily it is for the wicked to proceed ahead in their evil actions. BUT, it could not have started that easily. There had to have been a path of disobedience they choose to walk down. The farther you go down the path of disobedience the easier it becomes, until eventually it was like putting on a necklace and getting dressed in the morning. That thought ought to make all of us want to fall to our knees right now. I NEVER want to put myself in a position of compromising the TRUTH and putting myself on a dangerous path of destruction. And destruction will happen. "You have put them in danger; you cause them to be destroyed. They are destroyed in a moment; they are swept away by terrors. It will be like waking from a dream. Lord, when you rise up, they will disappear."

Psalm 72:1–20

April 6, 2011

If I thought my heart was overflowing yesterday, it is doubly (is that a word?) so today. I feel as if a bright light is starting to illuminate the way. The curtains are being opened and we are being shown what it is God wants us to do. A thread woven throughout our lives is now starting to make sense. I will tell of your goodness. I will sing for joy because of all you have done.

Psalm 72 is a prayer for the king. The prayer was for good judgment, goodness, fairness, peace, salvation for the needy, respect, encouragement, fruitful, empathy, multiplying, and blessings (for himself and others).

LORD, I ask these same things to be present in my life for however many years I have left. Lord, may I have good judgment. May my goodness be apparent to all around me. May I be fair to all and live peacefully and extend peace. May my life and testimony bring people to salvation. May I show respect and be respected. May I be an encouragement to others. May I be fruitful and multiply, all for the purpose of bringing others to Christ. May I have continued empathy for the lost and others around me. LORD – Please bless me, and may my life be a blessing to others.

Psalm 72:18–19 - "Praise the LORD God, God of Israel, who alone does such miracles. Praise his glorious name forever. Let his glory fill the whole world." Amen and Amen.

Psalm 70:1 – 71:24

April 5, 2011

Psalm 70 - A cry for God's help to come quickly. An acknowledgment that it is God who saves and is worthy of all our praise.

Psalm 71 - An Old Person's Prayer. I think some people mistakenly believe that once you accept Christ as your Savior that life is easy from that point on. Yet here is the Psalmist, who is now old and full of wisdom, still beseeching the LORD to help him and save him from the wicked who were trying to harm him. He was still the "victim" of wicked people's attacks and accusations, even in his old age. But one thing was constant from the days of his youth: his hope, his faith, and his trust was in the LORD. Christianity is not a pass from troubles; it is our source of strength, faith, trust, and hope through troubles.

Psalm 71:14-16 - "But I will always have hope and will praise you more and more. I will tell how you do what is right. I will tell about your salvation all day long, even though it is more than I can tell. I will come and tell about your powerful works, LORD God. I will remind people that only you do what is right. 18 I will tell the children about your power; I will tell those who live after me about your might. 22 I will praise you... I trust you, my God... I will sing for you... I will shout for joy... 24  I will tell about your justice all day long. And those who want to hurt me will be ashamed and disgraced."

In Jane's (Her Name Was Jane) KJV she has Psalm 71:9 circled. "Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth."

Jane,
You were faithful to God until the very end. God did not cast you off and He did not forsake you when your strength faileth. He positioned both you and me. He took a rotten situation in both our lives and used it to comfort both of us.

Amazing Grace
"The LORD has promised good to me. His work my hope secures; He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures." (Written in Jane's Journal)
Jane,
I have so many memories flooding my mind. Like when you tried to pray in April of 2008. The only words you could get out were, "Praise the LORD." When the nursing home called me to come in because you were dying, your love for God was still so apparent and you were still touching our hearts. You took your Power Of Attorney's hand from one side of the bed and mine from the other and put them together over your chest. When your POA asked if you were trying to bring us together you nodded. There was the time when you kept looking at my husband, pointing upward, and saying, "Up!  Up"! Another time we were alone in the room and I was singing to you, "Great is thy Faithfulness, morning by morning new mercies I see..." I was sitting beside your bed. When I looked over at you, you were perfectly mouthing the words. And then the night before you died, I was telling you I loved you and thanking God for you when in a small audible voice you said, "Good-bye." You had not spoken or acknowledged anyone or anything in days. I was shocked beyond belief. I called your sister over and told her what happened. I told you good-bye again and told you I loved you. And again, in a small still audible voice you said, "Good-bye."

Your home Jane. It was my honor to share the last years of your earthly life with you. God was faithful Jane. He did not cast you off. He did not forsake you. And you were faithful to your LORD to the very end.

Psalm 68:1 – 69:36

April 5, 2011

Psalm 69:30 sums it all up - "I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving."  (KJV)

My heart is full of joy today. Literally overflowing with anticipation and excitement. God has been revealing more and more. HE is worthy of ALL honor, ALL praise, and ALL glory!!!

Enough is enough! Our Pastor's sermons these last several years have been fueled by the Holy Spirit in a fresh and powerful way. I keep thinking about the phrase "enough is enough" from last week and how there are two contrasting sides to that. Both sides are depicted in these chapters.

Christ is enough. His grace is enough. He is sufficient in ALL things.

Psalm 68:3 - those who do right should be glad; should rejoice before God; should be happy and glad
Psalm 68:4 - rejoice before Him
Psalm 68:6 - He leads prisoners out with joy
Psalm 68:19 - praise the LORD, God our Savior; He helps us every day; our God is a God who saves us; He saves us from death
Psalm 69:30 - I will praise God in a song; I will honor Him by giving thanks
Psalm 69:32 - you who worship God, be encouraged
Psalm 69:33 - the LORD listens to those in need

Then there is the flip side of "enough is enough." There will come a day when the "door of the ark" closes and the opportunity to change our hearts comes to an end. Our choices will determine which side of the door we will be on, and which contrasting side of "enough is enough" is our portion. Reward—verses—Punishment. If we choose to live our lives being our own maker, then scripture make it very plain what our fate is.

Psalm 68:2 - blow them away like smoke in the wind; let the wicked be destroyed like wax before fire
Psalm 68:21 - the hairy skulls of those who continue to sin will be crushed
Psalm 69:22 - let their own feasts cause them ruin and pay them back
Psalm 69:23 - let their eyes be closed so they can't see; let their backs be weak from troubles
Psalm 69:24 - pour out your anger on them; let your anger catch up with them
Psalm 69:25 - may their place be empty; leave no one in their tents
Psalm 69:27 - charge them with crime after crime; remove from them anything good
Psalm 69:28 - wipe their names from the book of life; do not list them with those who do right

There is an "inconvenient truth." (Quote from our Pastor) There is a heaven and a hell. There is a wholly righteous and just Holy Wrath of God. It may be an inconvenient truth, but it is TRUTH!

Psalm 68:4 - "Prepare the way for Him who rides in the desert, whose name is the LORD.  Rejoice before him.  God is in his holy Temple."

Addendum: 7/24/20 ~ "There will come a day when the 'door of the ark' closes and the opportunity to change our hearts comes to an end."

Last year we took our five grandchildren to the Creation Museum and to the replica of the Ark in Kentucky. While touring the Ark, suddenly the door of the Ark came into view and it literally stopped me in my tracks. The soberness of the reality that there was lost people on the other side of the door during Noah's time, and there are lost people on the other side of the door in our time and for eternity—hit me.

Illuminated in the center of the door was a cross. There is only one way to eternal life and it is through the cross of Jesus. While there is still breath, change your heart and life!

Psalm 66:1 – 67:7

April 2, 2011

Psalm 66:8–9 - "You people, praise our God; loudly sing his praise. He protects our lives and does not let us be defeated."

Psalm 66 is about praising God for what He has done and His amazing power. (Psalm 8 and Psalm 150 - Her Name Was Jane) It's not about praising God just when life is easy. It is about praising God for who HE is, even in the tough times.

Psalm 66:10–12 - "God, you have tested us; you have purified us like silver. You let us be trapped and put a heavy load on us. You let our enemies walk on our heads. We went through fire and flood, BUT you brought us to a place of good things."

Psalm 66:13–15 talks about fulfilling the promises they made to God during their time of trials. We have promised God we would do whatever He asked of us. We've surrendered everything. Our lives, our pride, our fears. The stake in the ground still stands by the large rock that came from my Mom and Dad's farm. If God asks us to leave our home and business—then we leave. If He asks us to tell the story of what He has done—then we tell the story.

Psalm 66:16–20 - "All of you who fear God, come and listen, and I will tell you what he has done for me. I cried out to him with my mouth and praised him with my tongue. If I had known of any sin in my heart, the LORD would not have listened to me. But God has listened; he has heard my prayer. Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or hold back his love for me."

Psalm 67 - "May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us." Why? "So the world will learn your ways and all nations will learn that you can save."

3 God the people should praise you; all people should praise you. 4 The nations should be glad and sing because you judge people fairly... 5 God, the people should praise you; all people should praise you."
"Wait on God. In return, He will give you clearer vision. Furthermore, He will soften your will and make you want to know and do His will." ~ From Simple Faith by Charles Swindoll

Psalm 63:1 – 65:13

April 1, 2011

Three amazing Psalms.

Psalm 63 - Wishing To Be Near God
Psalm 64 - A Prayer Against Enemies
Psalm 65 - A Hymn of Thanksgiving

Psalm 63 - For almost 20 years this has been my favorite Psalm. It became my favorite during the time we were going through the turbulent years with our daughter. Psalm 63 was my response. I hope when my life has ended that my friends and family will read this Psalm and say—Yup, that was _____, or that was my Mom. Someone who searched and thirsted after God. Someone who praised God and was content. Someone who acknowledged—God, you are my God. Someone who's faith and trust was in God alone. Someone that sought God for protection, support, and help. Someone that talked the talk AND walked the walk.

Jane (Her Name Was Jane) has written in her KJV that Psalm 63 is, "Victory in faith." David wrote this Psalm while he was in the wilderness. The KJV says, "early will I seek thee." Jane has written, "put God 'early' in you day and in your life—first things first." She also has written that this is a public and personal declaration of faith. Jane has written that, "to see thy power and thy glory" shows desire, and that "in the shadow of thy wings" is comforting salvation. She also has written that verse eleven shows separation. Glory—verses—Destruction. Jane sums up Psalm 63 by saying it shows the progression of Christian life to maturity. Psalm 63:1 - "thirsteth"; Psalm 63:5 - "satisfied"; Psalm 63:8 - "follows hard after thee."

That is my desire. To follow hard after Thee.

Psalm 64 - Wow! This Psalm sounds so much like Psalm 140 - "They talk about setting traps, thinking no one will see them. They plan wicked things and say, "We have a perfect plan." BUT GOD! They think they have perfect plans but they have failed to take one thing into consideration. BUT GOD! God is the one who will hold them to accountability. Suddenly! (Verse 7) "Suddenly they will be struck down... Their own words will be used against them. All who see them will shake their heads." Then David writes about what I believe the purpose to be. 9 "Then everyone will fear God. They will tell what God had done, and they will learn from what he has done."

God's plan and purpose. Tell the story—for Him to receive all honor and glory. May it be so, LORD. Your will be done.

10 "Good people will be happy in the LORD and will find protection in him. Let everyone who is honest praise the LORD." Amen—so be it. Jane's hand written cross references for Psalm 64:9–10 is Isaiah 41:20 - "People will see these things and understand; they will think carefully about these things and learn things" and Psalm 62:8 - God is our protection.

Psalm 65 - It's all about YOU God!
  • You hear our prayers
  • You forgive our sins
  • You choose people
  • Your court is where we are invited to stay
  • Your house is filled with good things
  • Your Holy Temple is where I want to be
  • You answer us in amazing ways
  • You are our Savior
  • You made the mountains
  • Your strength did it
  • You are dressed in power
  • You stopped the roaring seas
  • Your miracles are feared
  • You are praised from where the sun rises to where it sets
  • You take care of the land
  • You make it fertile
  • You make grain grow
  • You send rain
  • You fill the rows with water
  • You soften the ground
  • You bless the land with crops
  • You give a good harvest
  • You load the wagons with many crops
EVERYTHING shouts and sings for joy because of YOU!

The LORD—HE IS GOD! It is ALL about YOU God. May my life reflect that. May you receive all the honor and glory for what you have done and for what you are going to do.

Genesis 28:15 - "I am with you and will protect you everywhere you go and bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."

Exodus 19:4 - "I have carried you as if you were on eagles wings..."

Psalm 121 - "I look up to the hills, but where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. He will not let you be defeated. He who guards you never sleeps. He who guards Israel never rests or sleeps. The LORD guards you. The LORD is the shade that protects you from the sun. The sun cannot hurt you during the day, and the moon cannot hurt you at night. The LORD will protect you from all danger; he will guard your life. The LORD will guard you as you come and go, both now and forever."

Isaiah 41:10 - "So don't worry, because I am with you. Don't be afraid, because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you; I will support you with my right hand that saves you."

Matthew 28:20 - "Teach them to obey everything I have taught you, and I will be with you always, even until the end of this age."

Addendum: 2/2/15 ~ Thank you for the reminder, LORD. It is all about you—it is ALL about YOU. We will take our eyes off of ourselves and put them back on you. We will trust your ability to provide for us and to protect us from "the storm." We will be open to whatever you want to teach us. We will be patient. We will wait on you. We will tell YOUR story. We will be faithful. It is all about you, LORD. It is ALL about YOU!
