Leviticus 16:1 – 17:16

February 20, 2010

Atonement.

In the Old Testament it is AT ONE MENT. The sacrifices were made to make the Israelites AT ONE MENT with God. The sacrifices forgave them for their past sin but didn't do anything for their future. They had to present sacrifices over and over again. In the New Testament it is ATONEMENT—the covering of all sin.

Christ's death paid the price for our sin once and for all time. Christ is the Lamb of God. The perfect, blameless, ultimate and last sacrifice. The payment for all of mankind's sin: yesterday, today, and forever. Praise the Lord.

Can you imagine how this world would be changed if mankind would be willing to accept the sacrifice and free gift of forgiveness that Christ has offered to each of us? And, if those of us who have accepted His free gift of salvation would actually live our lives as if we truly had done that with changed hearts and obedient lives, what a difference we would make in the world? There would be no more bitterness, grudges, the need for revenge, anger, strife, wanting what others have, divorce, addictions, worrying, fear, and the list goes on and on.

Christ's death freed us from the bondage and chains of sin. IF—we don't surrender all, THEN—we are refusing to let go of the chain.
