Wow! The consequences for the choices we make in life are laid out so clearly here. It starts out with the basics: honor God and no other gods. The basics. The very foundation that we need to build our lives upon. If the foundation is sound we receive rewards (blessings). If the foundation is not sound then we receive punishments (life without God's blessings). It's that simple.
I know where I want to live. The only way to get there is NO other gods. That means not ourselves, things, the world, wealth, family—nothing. By putting God first we honor Him. There is a reason why "I am the LORD" is repeated over and over. We must get the order correct!
"IF you remember my laws and commands AND obey them THEN—I (God) will give..."
Blessings. I will provide for you. I will give you safety. You will not be afraid or fearful. You will have peace and contentment. You will be successful. I will show kindness to you. I will be faithful to you. I will live among you. I will not leave you. I will walk with you. I will be your God. You will be mine. I am the LORD. I am the One who released you and broke the weights that were on you. I am the One who gave you stamina. I am the One who let you regain your confidence and walk with you head held high. I am the ONE!
