Leviticus 26:1 – 27:34 (Continued)

March 2, 2010

BUT! Oh my. What a difference. God has just explained the blessings you will receive when you have Him first in your life and obey His commands. Now He starts to explain what it will be like to live without His blessings if we choose to not obey Him and refuse to have him LORD of our lives. What a difference. Why would anyone actually choose to live without God's blessings?

Leviticus 26:14–17
"IF—you do not remember my laws and commands and if you turn away from me, you have broken our agreements, THEN—I (God) will do this to you..." I will remove my blessings. I will cause terrible things to happen to you. (When the "things" of life happen you will be alone.) I will cause things to slowly eat away at you. (You will have no peace.) You will not have success.Your enemies will enjoy the fruits of your labor. (You will work hard spinning your wheels but you will get nowhere.) I will be against you and your enemies will rule over you. (You will not have my protection.) You will be anxious and fearful. (My peace will be removed from you and paranoia will set in.)

Leviticus 26:18–20
IF—you still do not obey me, THEN—everything will intensify seven times. I will break your pride. You will work hard but nothing will be successful. (You will try all sorts of things. The more you try to get ahead the farther you will get behind. You will start to lose confidence in yourself.)

Leviticus 26:21–22
IF—you still turn against me and refuse to obey me, THEN—the intensity increases seven times more. The more you refuse to obey and continue to sin, the more you will be punished. (All the more your life will be void of God and His blessings.) I will bring wild animals to attack you and your children. (I will bring unexpected events and consequences in your life. You will be caught off-guard. It will literally break apart your family and make you isolated.)

Leviticus 26:23–26
IF—you still turn against me, IF—you haven't yet learned your lesson, THEN—I will turn against you. Think about those words, "I (God) will turn against you." (It is horrible enough to have God's blessings, protection, and grace removed from you, but for God to be against you? Could there be anything more horrible than that?) Now God says the intensity will increase seven-fold again. God puts the blame where the blame is due. "You broke my agreement." You are the one who has brought this on. You are the one who has rejected me as LORD in your life. It is your pride that has brought this on you. After all I have done you still haven't learned your lesson. You refuse to submit to me. Because I AM THE LORD, I will now punish you for the choices you have made. I will bring armies, diseases, and famine against you. (You will be out of control. You will no longer orchestrate you lives. No matter what you do it will not be enough. Nothing will satisfy you. No joy. No contentment. No peace.)
