Psalm 102

May 02, 2011

The Psalmist is discouraged. He feels as if all hope is gone, and he goes to God with his complaints. In the midst of it all he still understands that God is God and that 17 "He will answer the prayers of the needy; he will not reject their prayers." The answer to discouragement is found in the next Psalm—PRAISE. It is impossible to remain discouraged when you praise the great "I AM."

*****
Today is Monday. Last night we took Dozer (our 11 month old Chocolate Lab puppy) over for his weekly Sunday night visit with my Dad. Oh how my Dad loves that dog. Who would have ever guessed Dad and Dozer would have become such pals? Last night Dad never got up from his bed. Dozer went in and laid down beside him, totally stretching his body the entire length of Dad's body, and then just laid there. This maniac of a puppy just quietly laid beside my Dad the whole night. I think Dozer knew something was wrong. The love between the two of them is an amazing thing to watch.

Last night is when I noticed that Dad's coloring was totally off. Mom had not noticed, but to me Dad looked jaundiced. He seemed to have gone considerably downhill from when we were there last week. Dad was very lethargic. I believe his body is slowly shutting down. Mom had my brother come over to see what he thought of Dad's coloring. He too felt something was wrong. Dad had a doctor's appointment scheduled for later this month, but Mom called and got him in today. I wish I could have went with them but I couldn't because I was watching grand-kids. I talked briefly with Mom about Hospice. I will forever cherish the closeness my Dad I have had these last years. I am so thankful for his life and the Christian heritage he has given us.

We all had such a good time celebrating Dad's 90th birthday on Easter. So grateful for all the memories.
