Psalm 107

May 06, 2011

Friday – Mom and I met with Hospice. Mom wanted to try and take care of Dad alone when they got home from the hospital on Wednesday. I knew she was going to need additional help, so I set the appointment with Hospice for Friday. Mom was now ready to accept help.

After signing up with Hospice and getting everything arranged, the nurse asked Mom if there was anything she needed or anything they could do to help her. We were sitting at the dining room table. To my surprise Mom said, "Yes," and then went on to say, "I have a daughter coming from out of town. She says she is going to stay here with us. I don't want her staying here. Is there anything you can do to keep her from coming here?" Mom went on to tell them that my sister's presence would create so much stress in the home and Mom just really wanted it to be a peaceful time for her and Dad. It was an unusual request, but Hospice could see how much it was upsetting Mom, so they wrote a letter which said Mom and Dad needed to have everything peaceful and should not be having guests staying at their home.

After everything was arranged with Hospice, I talked with Mom and told her what I felt I should do and why. We both decided I should stay away to prevent any possibility of additional stress or turmoil. Mom hated the situation, but she knew it was best and she also knew I was at peace and I would be okay. Before I left, Mom gave me a box of all their important papers to keep at our home. She did not want them in her home if there was a possibility of my sister staying there.

I spent part of the day running errands for Mom and picking up supplies from the Hospice office. The hospital bed arrived early Friday evening.

Psalm 107 - God Saves from Many Dangers

6 "In their misery they cried out to the LORD, and he saved them from their troubles."
8 "Let them give thanks to the LORD for his love and for the miracles he does for people."

13 "In their misery they cried out to the LORD, and he saved them from their troubles."
15 "Let them give thanks to the LORD, for his love and for the miracles he does for people."

19 "In their misery they cried out to the LORD, and he saved them from their troubles."
21 "Let them give thanks to the LORD for his love and for the miracles he does for people."

28 "In their misery they cried out to the LORD, and he saved them from their troubles."
31 "Let them give thanks to the LORD, for his love and for the miracles he does for people."

Four times in this chapter the exact same thing is said. "In their misery they cried out to the LORD... he saved them... let them give thanks to the LORD."

The chapter starts out with, "Thank the LORD because He is good. His love continues forever. That is what those whom the LORD saves should say." And it ends with, "Whoever is wise will remember these things and will think about the love of the LORD." HIS LOVE – Wow! What blessings are ours when we have God as LORD in our lives. Praise the LORD.

In between the four sets of identical verses God—
7 Led them on a straight road to a city where they could live.
14 Brought them out of their gloom and darkness and broke their chains.
20 Gave them his word and healed them and saved them from their destruction. (KJV)
29 Stilled the storm and calmed the waves. They were happy that it was quiet and he guided them to their desired haven.

In our misery. When we cry out to the LORD He does save us. Our lives before, during, and after the misery should be a life of praise. So be it.

LORD, thank you for the song, The Potter's Hand that has incessantly and almost annoyingly (sorry God 🙂) been running through my mind this week. Now I know why!
