Isaiah 32:1 – 35:10

August 15, 2011

More comparisons, warnings and promises.

On one hand you have a description of what the wicked do. "The wicked person uses evil like a tool. He plans ways to take everything from the poor. He destroys the poor with lies, even when the poor person is in the right." And then comes the accountability. "How terrible it will be" for you who destroy others (even though no one was trying to destroy you). "How terrible it will be" for you traitor, when you were being treated fairly. Even if you decide to do right, accountability will happen. (Isaiah 33:1)

On the other hand you have the promises for those who choose to do right. "The fruit of righteousness will be peace, the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever. (Isaiah 33:2) The prayer of the righteous is for God to grant them mercy; to show them His graciousness; to give them strength; and to save them. And God does it. Isaiah 33:6 - "He will be your safety. He is full of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. Respect for the LORD is the greatest treasure."

You have confusion and emptiness on one side and joy and gladness on the other. Who can survive the punishment God has arranged? Isaiah 33:15-16 - "A person who does what is right and speaks what is right." Someone who is not influenced by money and does not plan to harm others. "That is the kind of person who will be safe. He will be protected as he would be in a high walled city. He will always have bread, and he will not run out of water."

In Isaiah 28:17 it says, "I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line" for those who trust in the cornerstone.

In Isaiah 34:11 it says God will stretch out "the measuring line of chaos and the plumb line of desolation" for those who have not chosen to trust in the Cornerstone. For those people He has become the stone who causes them to stumble.

The Life Lesson puts it this way. "People's motives were clear to God, and he rewarded those who lived by his commandments and were honest.  He punished sinners."
"Although slow to anger, God punishes sin. Only the faithful will know God's bounty and security."
"Everyone will see the glory of the LORD and the splendor of our God." Be strong. Don't be afraid. Look, your God will come, and he will punish your enemies. He will make them pay for the wrongs they did, but he will save you." (Isaiah 35:2-4)

Warnings and promises.
