Genesis 26:1–35

December 15, 2009

Verse 3 - Isaac trusted God enough to believe his promise that "I will be with you," but not enough to trust God to protect Rebekah.

Verse 6 - Isaac gave the exact same response to the same king (Abimelech) as Abraham did in Genesis 20. The sins of the father passed down. Our children (and on down the line) have the same "tendencies" as our unsurrendered sins.

Verse 23 - I AM ... don't be afraid ... I AM. Even after Isaac's failure God wanted him to realize and believe that He is the I AM.

God's faithfulness does not waiver even when ours does.
"Faith is an in-depth assurance, a profound certainty that God will actually do what, in the Bible, He says He will do."  From The Positive Power of Jesus Christ  by Norman Vincent Peale
You first have to know what is in the Word. As you learn of God's promises your faith grows; you start to see faith in action; it strengthens your faith; and the "peace, joy, and victory" that you inexplicably receive is proof of it. "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

Abraham doubted God's protection and he lied. And then later, just like his father, Isaac lied.
"Will God bless my deceit? Will he who hates lies bless a strategy built on lies? Will the Lord who loves the truth, bless the business of falsehoods? Will God come to the aid of the cheater? Will God bless my dishonesty?" From Just Like Jesus by Max Lucado
God CANNOT lie. He will not bless those whose lives are built on lies. There is NO truth in Satan. It's not surprising then to realize that the devil used lies to deceive Eve. The lie always comes first.

Max Lucado - "The ripple of today's lie is tomorrow's wave and the next year's flood."

There will always be consequences for living, telling, and believing the lie.

Addendum:  9/3/13 ~ Written in my Bible margin: Esau married two Hittite women. "These women brought much sorrow to Isaac and Rebekah." See Genesis 10:15.  The Hittite women were descendants of Ham. Again—the sins of the father passed down for generations.
