Genesis 50:1–26

January 11, 2010

Jacob dies and his body is taken back to be buried in the land of Canaan. Joseph's brothers became fearful that Joseph would seek to harm them now that Jacob was gone. Joseph understood what happened to him was a God-thing. Not brothers—verses—Joseph. Joseph said, "Can I do what only God can do?" (Verse 19) "You meant to hurt me, but God turned your evil into good to save the lives of many people, which is being done." (Verse 20)

Joseph understood the difficulty he faced really had nothing to do with him. This was God's plan. The situation we are facing is not about "us" either. We understood long ago that this is God's battle—not ours. Understanding God is in control is how you can have peace and contentment in spite of the storms of life.

Psalm 62:1–2 - I find rest in God; only he can save me. He is my rock and my salvation. He is my defender; I will not be defeated.

Psalm 62:5–6 - I find rest in God; only he gives me hope. He is my rock and my salvation. He is my defender; I will not be defeated.

Genesis 50:19 - Can I do what only God can do?

No, I can't. Peace comes only when you get this. It is not about me or us! It is about God. When you get this, when you truly get this, it almost becomes easy to surrender everything to the maker of heaven and earth. I don't have the strength—but God does. I don't have the power—but God does. That is how Joseph made it. That is how we have made it while surviving "the storm." Joseph's last words were, "God will take care of you..."

It's NOT about us!! It is about God—all knowing, all present, all powerful God.

Psalm 150 - Praise the Lord!

Addendum:  9/6/13 ~ Psalm 62:1–2 and Psalm 62:5–6 are some of the verses we would often quote as we daily walked and prayed for God's direction while caught in "the storm."
