Genesis 39:1 – 40:23

January 03, 2010

Joseph is stripped of his coat; thrown into a well; sold to the Ishmaelites; bought by Potiphor; stripped of his coat again; falsely accused of rape; thrown into prison and forgotten there—yet God was with him.

Verse 3 - The Lord made Joseph successful in everything he did.
Verse 5 - The Lord blessed Potiphor's house because of Joseph.
Verse 21 - The Lord was with Joseph.
Verse 23 - The Lord was with Joseph and made him successful in everything he did.

The key to the reason why God was with Joseph? Joseph acknowledged God's position. He understood that God is LORD of all. Joseph had a personal relationship with God.

Genesis 39:9 - It is a sin against God...
Genesis 40:8 - God is the only one...

Joseph stood by his beliefs. He did not compromise.

Genesis 40:14–15 - Joseph asks to be remembered because he was taken by force from his land. He didn't ask to be remembered so he could get out of prison and return to the king's house. He asked to be remembered so he could return home. It had to have felt like God wasn't listening or answering his prayers. It wasn't that God wasn't listening. God had a better plan. Joseph wanted to return home, but God wanted to bring Joseph's home—his family—to Joseph so they could be saved.

WAIT on the Lord! Trust His plan. Don't doubt His Hand.

The Exploration Verses were very meaningful today.

Genesis 28:15 - "I am with you and will protect you everywhere you go and will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."

Exodus 33:14 - The Lord answered, "I myself will go with you, and will give you victory."

Deuteronomy 20:1 - When you go to war against your enemies and you see horses and chariots and an army that is bigger than yours, don't be afraid of them. The LORD your God who brought you out of Egypt, will be with you.

Isaiah 43:2 - When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. When you cross rivers, you will not drown. When you walk through fire, you will not be burned, nor will the flames hurt you.

Matthew 18:20 - This is true because if two or three people come together in my name, I am there with them.

Matthew 28:20 - Teach them to obey everything that I have taught you, and I will be with you always, even until the end of this age.

Even in the midst of a stormGod has a plan for our lives. We will WAIT on Him.
