Genesis 38

January 02, 2010

Judah marries a Canaanite woman. The consequences were far reaching and for generations.

WAITING.

Isaiah 40:31 - God promises to renew our strength when we wait on Him. When we try to make things happen (instead of being patient), we miss out on God's plan and reap the consequences of our actions. Judah left his area and married a Canaanite. His eldest (Er) did evil and was killed. Onan decides not to do the right thing and he was killed. Judah failed to keep his promises; sleeps with his daughter-in-law; passes judgment on her; and Zerah and Perez were born. (Christ came from Perez.)

Oh how we mess things up when we don't trust God enough to WAIT. Rarely do we admit that it is a lack of trust. We call it being wise, or helping, or whatever. But the truth is—it is a lack of trust. When you learn to surrender ALL and trust completely, then the waiting is no longer a difficult thing. Isaiah 40:31 actually happens. That doesn't mean there won't be difficult moments or days when we try to grab back a hold of something. But, when we re-release it, the peace of God (which surpasses all understanding and can only come from him)—fills our lives to overflowing.

Matthew 10:39 - "Those who try to hold on to their lives will give up true life. Those who give up their lives for me will hold on to true life."

Matthew 11:28–30 is true. "Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Accept my teachings and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit, and you will find rest for your lives. The teaching that I ask you to accept is easy; the load I give you to carry is light."
