Genesis 46:1 – 47:27

January 07, 2010

In the last chapter Joseph tested his brothers sincerity. He understood they had changed and they were genuinely sorry. That opened the door for their literal salvation and they returned to Canaan to get Jacob.

Genesis 46:3-4 - God reassures and promises Jacob that He would go with him to the land of Egypt.

Jacob knew God promised Abraham, Isaac, and himself the land of Canaan—and here they were going to Egypt. In life there may be detours. Some caused by our disobedience, and some part of God's greater plans. We need to remember that His thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways. We can trust Him. He will not let us go. We need to hold onto His promises and trust Him while we wait. When His plans are revealed it is often an "aha" moment.

Lord, this is what you meant by Jeremiah 33? See (Her Name Was Jane). That exactly one year to the day after Jane said to read Jeremiah 33—a promise of restoration—that we would be restored from one critical financial obligation brought on by "the storm"? We could have never imagined God's plan for our restoration. We will remain content to stay in God's Word, sit back, and wait upon the Lord.

There is an interesting comment inserted in the story of Joseph and Jacob. Genesis 47:9-10 - The king asks Jacob how old he is. Jacob replies that he has spent his life wandering from place to place and that his life was short and full of trouble. Jacob suffered life consequences because of his decision to use deceit to get what he wanted. Make the right choices! The wrong choices—while they may not entirely remove God's blessings from your life—certainly can lead to a life of pain and suffering.
