Genesis 37:1–36 (Continued)

Esther 4–8: The story of Esther, Mordecai, King Xerxes, and Haman.

Esther had to be willing to put herself at risk to do what was right. "You may have been chosen ... for such a time as this." She did not avoid the confrontation. The most important step—prayer. She had others join her in prayer and fasting. Esther did not walk into the king blindly. God gave her a plan—and she followed it.

Haman was arrogant, prideful, boastful, self-serving, etc. He wanted what he wanted and he didn't care how he went about getting it. He wanted full control. Esther 5:11- He gathered his friends and family to tell them how wealthy and powerful he was. He couldn't stand it that Mordecai didn't bow down to him. So with the encouragement of his wife and friends, they plot a plan to get rid of him.

King Xerxes "happens" not to be able to sleep. He "happens" to have the court records read to him. He "happens" to realize that Mordecai was never honored for his service to the king. The king asks Haman what should be done to honor someone. Of course Haman thinks the king is talking about him, so he comes up with an elaborate plan thinking it would be used to honor himself. Haman was horrified when he learned that Mordecai was the one to receive the honor and glory.

Haman's Wife says to Haman, "You are starting to lose power." Losing power was Haman's biggest fear.

Esther exposes Haman's scheming ways and the king orders Haman to be hung. The very thing Haman had planned for Mordecai is what happened to him.

God has perfect timing. He is in control. His will—WILL be done.
