For all of Jacob's many faults, he still worshiped God. Genesis 47:31
Jacob went from saying, "God of my father" in Genesis 31:5 to saying, "My ancestors Abraham and Isaac served our God, and like a shepherd God has led me all my life. He was the Angel who saved me from all my troubles..." (Genesis 48:15–16)
Our relationship with Christ has to be personal. You can be raised in a godly home with godly parents and grandparents, but only when your relationship with Christ becomes personal and it becomes your own, can you personally experience what it means to have Christ as your Savior.
There is only one way to Christ and it's not through a church, parents, or grand-parents. It is through a direct relationship with Jesus Christ.
It is our responsibility to teach the generations that follow us what Christ has done for us and to lead them by godly example which can pass blessings forward. But, asking Christ to be your Savior can only be done with a repentant heart.
Addendum: 9/6/13 ~ Jacob gives the blessing to Joseph's sons. Joseph positions his boys so that Manasseh, the firstborn is on Jacob's right, and Ephraim, the second born is on Jacob's left. Custom said that the eldest should receive the "best" blessing. But, Jacob crosses his arms and places his right hand on the head of Ephraim—and just that quick and easy—the blessing God wanted given went to who it was supposed to be given to, Joseph's younger son. No deceit was necessary. Compare what happened here to what Jacob and Rebekah did in order to "trick" Isaac into giving the blessing to Jacob. God had already said that the oldest (Esau) would serve the youngest (Jacob). No maneuvering or tricks were necessary. God did not need their "help." The blessing would have went to who it belonged without their interference—which caused consequences for many generations. See my writings for Genesis 27:1 - 28:9.
