Jesus asked the Pharisees a questions, "Is it right or wrong to heal on the Sabbath day?" The Pharisees knew what they wanted to believe, and they also knew what God said was truth. (Luke 13:10–17) But they didn't want to give up their chosen beliefs and accept God's truth. So they sat there and said nothing. They had so many opportunities to change their hearts and lives—but they did nothing.
Discipleship is costly. It costs your pride, desires, dreams, goals. But the rewards far outweigh anything you give up. You give up "self," and you get God.
Deuteronomy 6:5 - "Love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength."
Matthew 6:33 - "The things you should want most is God's Kingdom and doing what God wants. Then all these other things you need will be given to you."
Matthew 16:24 - "If people want to follow me, they must give up the things they want. They must be willing even to give up their lives to follow me."
John 15:8 - "You should produce much fruit and show that you are my followers, which brings glory to my Father."
Galatians 5:24 - "Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their own sinful selves. They have given up their old selfish feelings and evil things they wanted to do."
Colossians :1-3 - "Since you were raised from the dead with Christ, aim at what is in heaven, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Think only about the things of heaven, not the things on earth. Your old sinful self has died, and your new life is kept with Christ in God.
II Timothy 2:15 - "Make every effort to give yourself to God as the kind of person he will accept. Be a worker who is not ashamed and who uses the true teaching in the right way."
Revelation 3:19 - "I correct and punish those whom I love. So be eager to do right, and change your hearts and lives."
There it is again—"change your hearts and lives."
Luke 14:34–35 - "Salt is good, but if it loses its salty taste, you cannot make it salty again. It is no good for the soil or for manure; it is thrown away. You people who can hear me, listen."
Of no value, not even for manure. May the Lord never think that of me!
You people who can hear me—LISTEN!! Sadly, some have eyes to see—but can't see; and have ears to hear—but can't hear. You who can hear—LISTEN!!
